This is an experimental program for extreme stretching the audio. insanely extreme..
Requirements:
– audiofile library
– libvorbis
– fltk library
– portaudio library
– not required, but you can use the FFTW library
This algorithm/program is suitable only for extreme stretching the audio.
There is lot room for improvements on this algorithm like:
– on sharp attacks to make the window smaller and larger on steady sounds. This avoid adding constant sidebands on steady sounds and smoothing too much the sharp sounds.
– even for small window, the sidebands produced can be lowered (how?)
– it’s easy to add effects, like increasing the bandwidth of harmonics (larger on higher harmonics) or simple noise removal (etc)
CHANGES:
- improved performance (uses libfftw – “fastest fourier transform in the west”)
- switched to portaudio_v18 (v19 caused static glitches on some machines)
- saves to .wav, for real
- window resizable (so you can stack thousands of ‘em – check paulstretch_multiple)
- select audio device (use soundflower for recording realtime perfomance)
- timeline markers (mark your favorite spots)
- disable snap to fft windows, when freezin’
- added a volume slider
- changed gui to my favorite color ;)
- keyboard shortcuts:
Z – PLAY
X – FREEZE
Y – STOP
CMD-O – OPEN FILE

anyone out there that can recompile the source as a universal binary? this definately is broken for me (Intel, 10.5)

even though this doesn’t work on Intel Macs I recently realized that the PC version works perfectly on Intel Macs using Darwine http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/

couldn’t access the File open menu, though the interface seems alive other wise. 10.5.4… any thoughts?

Don’t bother with the Mac version, it doesn’t work on Intel Macs. Download a port of Wine, like the link I left above. Use the helper and d/l the required codecs, etc. And then download the Windows version of Paulstretch. It works great, at least until someone does an updated port, or Paul updates the source code for Mac friendly compiling.

Paulstretch has been updated to 2.0 and someone kindly ported a working version for OS X that works on Intel Macs running Leopard, etc. He also kindly posted the source and build instructions for everyone else: http://music.cornwarning.com/?p=407
